The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.

Difficulty finding training opportunities?

Members often report difficulties getting access to the training they require.  Knowing how to access appropriate quality training is even more important with the introduction of revised Performance Management arrangements. click for details

Two significant sources of help:

(1) Sandwell’s own PLC – professional learning centre in Tipton 0121 522 0520 which publishes a compendium of courses which should be available in paper format in your school.  Courses are also available on the web click on this link. You will need to know the user-name and password.  Contact the branch office 0845 370 2213 for details.

(2) ATL runs a series of high quality courses at low cost to members.  Headteachers often appreciate the value of such courses and are happy to support members’ fees.  Visit the national website training pages.

Other suggestions: local higher education colleges and universities ; subject associations; or contact your Advanced Skills Teacher with expertise in your subject area / specialism.  Training is, of course, more than just courses.  It’s unlikely that you are the only teacher delivering your courses in Sandwell, so why not make contact with colleagues in other schools / colleges?  Simple work-shadowing can be very developmental.

If you teacher a vocational subject, then Sandwell Education Business Partnership 0121 569 2350 may be able to arrange placements in business settings.  Members are always welcome to ring the branch office 0845 370 2213 to discuss training issues.
